KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - A winter storm is set to make it's way though Knox County this weekend. Snow, freezing rain and dangerously cold temperatures are expected for our area. Here is the latest on the forecast from WAKC News Now and First Warning Neighborhood Weather.
ALERTS:
As of 2:30am on Saturday, January 4, Knox County is under a WINTER STORM WARNING. This goes into effect at 7:00am Sunday, January 5 and lasts until 1:00pm Monday, January 6.
TIMING OF THE STORM:
SUNDAY: Snow is expected to begin sometime between 4:00am and 12:00pm. During the afternoon and evening hours, snow will mix with sleet and freezing rain and winds will become gusty; sometimes reaching 30mph. This will continue into the overnight hours.
MONDAY: Gusty winds will continue as light to moderate snow will take place during the morning and early afternoon hours. The snow will gradually late during the early to late evening hours. Cold weather will then settle in with multiple days of sub-zero wind chills likely.
SNOW & ICE AMOUNTS:
With winter weather, the slightest shift north or south can drastically change the forecast as well as total amounts. As of right now, Knox County could see 4 - 8 inches of snow and 0.1 - 0.25 inches of ice.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
You should get prepared for school and business closings, and power outages due to heavy snow and ice. Travel may be hazardous, so avoid driving unless absolutely necessary. Roads could become slippery, and visibility may be reduced.
GET PREPARED NOW:
Now is the time to stock up on emergency supplies (blankets, flashlights, extra batteries, snow shovels, portable phone chargers, bottled water and non-perishable foods, etc...). Make a plan with friends and family in case of power outages or emergencies. If you're using a generator, remember to check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and keep generators at least 20 feet away from your home.
