VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - The Lester Square Skate Park in Vincennes buzzed with excitement and fun during its grand opening on Saturday.
After years of planning and months of construction, the community finally gathered to celebrate.
Skateboarders, scooter riders, and cyclists of all ages took to the park after the ribbon-cutting, eager to try out the new features.
"This is great. I can't be happier to see everyone out here," said Vincennes Parks and Recreation Superintendent JR Fields.
The skate park now features a large fishbowl, new concrete, and upgraded rails and ramps.
Additional improvements include the installation of lighting and security cameras.
Wooden rails will soon be added to the park’s openings to prevent skateboards from rolling into the road.
Fields told WAKC News Now that the park is spacious enough to host skate competitions.
"Skaters have told me that the skate park here is better than some of the other parks they've skated in."
