VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - The Vincennes Animal Shelter is expanding to provide more services for animals and the community.
Construction began in August on a new 650-square-foot addition to the side of the building.
Vincennes Animal Shelter Director Leah Reagan says the addition won’t include new kennels but will double the size of the medical exam room.
A new all-purpose room will give the shelter space to hold classes, such as bottle-feeding classes for newborn animals along with additional office space will be added.
An existing office will be transformed into a meet-and-greet room, giving people a private place to meet animals before they adopt.
Reagan told WAKC News Now she and the staff are excited.
“This expansion will allow us to provide better care to the animals and allow us to be more efficient.”
At the end of last week, walls were going up, and spaces for doors and windows were being cut out in the addition.
The front of the existing shelter building will also get an update to match the addition.
Reagan says new siding, windows, doors, lighting, and signs will be installed.
Construction is expected to wrap up around the first of next year.
