Main Street Makeover Underway in Vincennes

VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Work is currently underway to enhance Vincennes’ historic Main Street, thanks to a grant awarded through the Indiana Department of Transportation’s Community Crossings Matching Grant program.

Contractors with E&B paving started the project earlier this week.

Vincennes City Engineer John Sprague told WAKC News Now that new curb ramps are being installed, and Main Street—from 1st Street to 6th Street—will be repaved.

In addition, old trolley ties located between 6th and 7th Streets will be removed before that section of the roadway is rebuilt and resurfaced.

To help maintain access during construction, one travel lane and parking on one side of the street will remain open—except during paving.

“There will always be one travel lane and parking on one side of the road until paving operations take place,” said Sprague.

Paving is scheduled to occur Monday through Thursday. During the milling and paving process, Main Street and side streets will be closed.

According to Sprague, paving is expected to take place in May, with the entire project slated for completion by the end of June.
