VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Local creators showcased a wide range of products during the First City Winter Market this past Friday.
Friday’s event featured a variety of items, including homemade treats, books, comic books, handmade jewelry, soaps, and more.
The event is part of the Creative Market, hosted and organized by Dartanyan Abney.
Abney told WAKC News Now that Friday’s event was a success.
“Out of the 16 markets that I have hosted, this is by far the largest turnout that we have ever had,” said Abney.
The market featured 35 spots for small businesses and local creators, an increase from the 22 vendors at the December market.
The Winter Market concept was born out of the seasonal closing of the Historic Vincennes Farmers Market.
“It allows small businesses, home-based vendors, and local creators to continue selling and networking their products during the colder months,” Abney told WAKC News Now.
“By having consistent markets through this season, it helps prevent stunted growth for many of our vendors and keeps them interacting with community members as they visit.”
As Friday’s event wrapped up, Abney said he is looking at possibly planning other events later this winter that will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and the soon arrival of spring.
Abney shared that those looking to get involved with the Creative Market and help support and grow the community are always welcome.
