KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - The Knox County Sheriff's Office is celebrating several of its jail officers.
Ten of its officers recently graduated from "jail school," a 40-hour training course taught by a professional instructor.
The course covers legal considerations from intake to release, jail security, medical protocols, suicide prevention, abnormal inmate behavior, admissions and booking, stress management, and Indiana Department of Corrections procedures.
The graduates include Officer Pandora Nestleroad, Officer Conner Goforth, Officer Emmanuel Messer, Officer Chad Combs, Officer Nicholas Banks, Officer Dante Seals, Officer Terry Stremming, Officer Chastain Purple, Officer Taylor Brinker, and Officer Jacob Campbell.
Chief Deputy John Fuller told WAKC News Now that the Knox County Sheriff's Office is an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA)-certified satellite location, with a jail school operating inside the sheriff’s office.
"This saves taxpayers money because there are no travel or lodging expenses involved by hosting it here," Fuller said.
State law requires every jail officer to attend and complete the ILEA jail officer class within their first year of employment.
