Knox County Declares Local Disaster Emergency; Issues Travel Warning

KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - The Knox County Board of Commissioners has issued a Local Disaster Emergency Declaration for Knox County, placing the county under a travel warning.

Knox County Commissioner Kellie Streeter announced the declaration early Monday morning.

The declaration prohibits nonessential travel on county-maintained roads, with exceptions for emergency personnel and essential services.

This includes individuals seeking medical assistance, as well as vehicles and employees involved in law enforcement, fire department, emergency management, public utilities, and fuel hauling services.

Streets maintained by cities or towns, state highways, and federal interstates within Knox County remain unrestricted.

Violators of the declaration may face a fine of up to $100 and be required by the court to reimburse the County for any costs or losses incurred due to their actions.

The declaration will remain in effect until the Board of Commissioners or designated officials determine that the emergency no longer exists.
