KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Indiana Conservation Officer Joseph Haywood has been named the 2024 District 7 Officer of the Year.
District 7 includes Knox, Dubois, Daviess, Gibson, Martin, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick counties.
Haywood has served with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for 21 years, currently in Dubois County and previously in Knox County.
According to a press release, Haywood’s duties include DNR honor guard, assists with search efforts using special equipment, trains new officers, and teaches archery through the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP).
With this recognition, Haywood is now a candidate for the Pitzer Award, which is given to Indiana’s top conservation officer.
The Pitzer Award honors Officer James D. Pitzer, who was killed in the line of duty on January 2, 1961, while investigating illegal hunting.
