VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - As snow falls and temperatures plummet, a Knox County facility providing temporary supportive housing is opening its doors to anyone seeking a warm place to stay and sleep.

First City Sunrise is opening a warming center for individuals in need, operating from 6:30a.m. to 6:00p.m.

From 6:00p.m. to 6:30p.m., individuals will be transported to another location where they can rest and enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep.

The emergency shelter is providing immediate assistance to those in need and is expected to remain open until the winter weather subsides.

Director Troy Pickel told WAKC News Now that daytime volunteers are needed to assist at the shelter.

If you're interested in volunteering, know someone who needs shelter, or are in need of shelter yourself, you are asked to contact Pickel at 812-830-2797.

You can also visit First City Sunrise's Facebook page for more information.
