VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - The driver involved in a fatal crash that killed a Vincennes man in May 2023 has been sentenced.
Keeton Walker, 21, was charged with Reckless Homicide in September 2023.
According to Knox County Prosecutor Dirk Carnahan, Walker plead guilty to the charge without a plea agreement.
Walker was sentenced to 60 months in prison, with 59 months suspended to supervised probation.
Walker is currently serving his one-month jail term in the Knox County Jail.
During Friday’s sentencing hearing, the judge listened to arguments from both sides.
Carnahan told WAKC News Now that the victim’s mother and others had asked for leniency in the sentencing.
The crash occurred on Friday, May 12, 2023, on Monroe School Road near Monroe City.
According to the Indiana State Police, Walker was driving at a high rate of speed when his vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a field.
Dalton Kirby, the passenger, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
